Starting a new mini-series this Sunday and thought I'd bring the idea here.
How do we see the jobs that we have? Are the means to an end, something to just pay the bills and get us the things we desire or is it something else? For years I struggled with the mundane task of going to work day after day. Caught up in the routine of a boring job and feeling like there has to be something more.
As I look back I can't help but see all the opportunities I missed. God places each one of us in a career or on a job site for a divine reason. We become His hands, His feet and His mouth to the people we work with. We are His witness in word and deed.
If your job is a burden to you, maybe it is time to infuse it with the power and purpose of the Holy Spirit. In Colossians 3:23 the Bible says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men"
Can you imagine how different work would be if we saw Jesus Christ, the King of kings and the Lord of lords as your boss, as your commander and chief as your CEO?
So I will ask the question, "Who do you work for?"
So true. I realize "we are the body" wherever we are, including our job. But it's hard to do sometimes. I try to show grace to co-workers who can be irritating, and peace and patience to the kids at school. There have been times when I was able to listen to a co-worker and offer support during a tough time, or try to offer kids advice on how to get along instead of just yell at them to be quiet. It's those times that make it worth it.
